Krabi Inspects Bars for Fire Safety, Finds Insufficient Extinguishers
Krabi authorities inspected bars and entertainment venues following a deadly Bangkok fire, discovering insufficient fire extinguishers, inadequate exit signage, and blocked emergency routes at some establishments.
On July 13, Phumesat Kraitong, Krabi's provincial governor, along with officials from the municipal administration, municipal police, and tourist police, inspected three closed-format entertainment venues and bars in central Krabi. The inspections were prompted by a fatal fire at a beer bar in Bangkok's Lat Phrao area that killed and injured many people. Officers assessed fire prevention and suppression readiness, electrical system safety, wiring and surge protection, fire extinguishers, alarm systems, emergency exit signage, and evacuation routes to ensure they met safety standards. The inspections found that some venues had too few fire extinguishers, exit signs that were too small, and emergency routes that were cluttered, confusing, and not open to the public. Authorities ordered improvements including illuminated exit signs and additional fire extinguishers placed throughout each establishment for easier access. Since Krabi is a major tourist destination with large numbers of foreign visitors and local residents using restaurants and entertainment venues, officials emphasized strict enforcement of service and entertainment facility regulations.
