On September 28, Thiwalrat Angkinandh, a Member of Parliament from Phetchaburi and chair of the Religion, Arts and Culture Committee of the House of Representatives, addressed concerns about heavy rainfall and flooding risks in Phetchaburi province. She stated that she visited the area with Chaiyya Angkinandh, the Phetchaburi Provincial Administration Organization governor, to monitor the situation and prepare public assistance measures.
The provincial administration held meetings with local government leaders from all districts, including municipalities and subdistrict administrations, to coordinate surveillance and ensure personnel and equipment are ready. Each locality has been tasked with monitoring high-risk areas and coordinating rapid assistance if heavy rains continue and affect communities.
Angkinandh noted that authorities have already cleared vegetation from the Phetchaburi River to open drainage channels, improving water flow when water levels rise. She emphasized that advance preparation is crucial, as it reduces drainage obstacles and gives officials time to respond before residents are affected.
As chair of the Religion, Arts and Culture Committee, Angkinandh expressed concern for temples located along the Phetchaburi River and consulted with temple abbots about emergency preparedness. Discussions focused on safety measures for monks, temple staff, and nearby residents, as well as protection of temple property and important facilities.
"We work as a team—Members of Parliament in the area, the provincial administration, municipalities, and subdistrict organizations across all districts. When all parties coordinate smoothly, we can prepare and assist residents more quickly. The most important goal is the safety and wellbeing of people in Phetchaburi," Angkinandh said.
She reaffirmed that officials will closely monitor rainfall and water levels while continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies to provide immediate assistance if the situation requires it. Residents, particularly those living near the river, can request sandbags and assistance from local government offices throughout the province.
