PM Receives British Princess Royal on State Visit
Thailand's prime minister and Britain's Princess Royal discussed strengthening bilateral ties during an official state visit, covering youth development, STEM education, and health security cooperation between the two nations.
Prime Minister Anuthин Charnvirakul and Interior Minister received Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and Sir Timothy Laurence at the Elephant Room in the Thai-British Building at Government House on July 16, 2025, during their official state visit to Thailand from July 15–18. Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek revealed that both sides discussed Thai-British relations and exchanged perspectives on youth development, education promotion, and women's participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The Prime Minister expressed great honor at receiving the Princess Royal, noting the visit's significance for Thai people. The Princess laid wreaths before the memorial of the late Queen Sirikit and paid respects to the late Princess Bajrakitiyabha, reflecting the strong bond between both nations' monarchies. She also expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised the late Queen Sirikit's dedication to the nation.
The Princess conveyed sympathy for recent fires in Thailand and commended rescue personnel and relevant agencies. Both sides discussed education promotion and expanding women's roles in STEM, with the Princess emphasizing the need for family and teacher support. The Prime Minister highlighted his engineering background and stressed that education, logical thinking, and analytical skills are fundamental to problem-solving and national development.
Further discussions covered health security and pandemic preparedness, with both agreeing on the importance of developing public health systems, research, and international cooperation. The Prime Minister praised the UK's medical and scientific capabilities and expressed confidence in expanding bilateral healthcare and health security cooperation, particularly between medical educational institutions.
