On October 5, 2026, reporters reported progress on the case: a black pickup opened its window and displayed a firearm outside the vehicle, threatening any car that tried to overtake without reason, despite no prior conflict. The driver repeatedly displayed weapons while driving through Chiang Mai city center. Subsequently, police from several precincts — San Pa Tong, Hang Dong, Mae Ping, and Saraphi — received reports of the driver showing his gun from the vehicle at roughly the same time. Then, a security guard at Lanna Kaset in Saraphi district reported that a man in the pickup had drawn a gun in a threatening manner toward the guard, prompting the guard to notify Saraphi police, who investigated and eventually detained the driver. Pol. Col. Sanchai Phanichakul, Saraphi police chief; Pol. Lt. Col. Thanarat Saengriap, deputy chief; Pol. Lt. Thanthorn Tajumpha, sergeant; Pol. Lt. Wiraphun Bunsaeng, deputy sergeant; and highway patrol officers jointly arrested Mr. Kaset, the driver of the aforementioned black pickup, a black four-door Vigo with license plate Kor 3186 Chiang Mai. Upon inspection of the vehicle, officers found a .22-caliber long rifle with 110 rounds, a Thai-made short shotgun with two rounds and one spent casing, and several knives.
