A 65-year-old retired schoolteacher was arrested after his black pickup truck veered off a road near Udon Thani's bypass and crashed into a ditch on September 8. Police responded to find the driver severely intoxicated and incoherent, requiring officers to physically remove him from the vehicle. A search discovered one methamphetamine tablet in his shoulder bag and two firearms inside the truck, leading to charges of carrying weapons in public and driving under the influence. He was later released on bail with family support.
After sobering up, the retired teacher acknowledged his actions and apologized to his family and society. He explained that on the day of the incident, he drank with family members and then attempted to drive home, experiencing dizziness due to his high blood pressure and diabetes. Regarding the firearms, he claimed one was being stored in a rubber plantation to sell for 10,000 baht, and the other was a family heirloom. He also admitted to using methamphetamine the previous week with friends.
The former educator expressed remorse for his reckless behavior and issued a public warning to other drinkers: "Don't drive drunk like I did." He pledged to quit drinking and stay away from illegal activities, committing to learn from this incident.
