Sukunthawa, known as Mai, shared an emotional account of discovering that the woman she called mother was actually her father's sister, not her biological mother. She recalled a dramatic moment when she overheard family members discussing when to tell her the truth, describing it like a scene from a television drama.
In her account, Mai explained that she never asked her father where her biological mother was until age 44, when she learned the truth on her own. "It was shocking and confusing," she said. "I wondered what else we didn't know, how long it would take to learn the truth, and where my mother was. There was always curiosity, but I didn't want to ask. If it was something they had resolved well, they would have told me themselves."
When asked how she would react if she met her biological mother, Mai said she would not embrace her or express love. "She never raised me, so how could I embrace her? She never gave me love, so how could I tell her I love her?" she explained.
Mai expressed deep gratitude to her biological mother for never causing trouble for her father or herself. She credited her aunt, known as Wani, with raising her and emphasized that there would be no reason to prioritize a relationship with someone who abandoned her at three months old. "Thank you to my real mother for not creating problems," Mai said. "Otherwise, life would be much messier and more complicated."
