27 Jul Khaosod

A 34-year-old teacher was shot dead in his bedroom in Muang District, Khon Kaen at approximately 1:30 a.m. on July 27. The suspect, a 33-year-old woman and the victim's ex-girlfriend, drove to Nong Bua Lamphu Province after the incident before surrendering to police with her father's assistance.

At Ban Pet Police Station in Khon Kaen on July 27, officers took the suspect into custody for questioning. She remained calm and silent, wearing black clothing and a face mask, and made no statements to the media. Police Colonel Phakkaphoomi Detchareungsit, Ban Pet Station commander, stated that initial questioning found the suspect denied involvement, claiming a struggle over the gun caused it to discharge and strike the victim fatally. However, investigators have witnesses present at the scene who saw the entire incident.

Police oppose bail citing the serious nature of the case and plan to request the court for detention on July 29. The suspect possessed the firearm under a valid ownership permit but lacked a carrying permit. Further investigation will determine whether the shooting was premeditated or intentional. The suspect and victim had dated previously before breaking up. Officers are investigating whether she had been monitoring his behavior, leading to confrontation and her forceful entry into the house.

The suspect works in general labor. Police indicate jealousy was the trigger, though whether the act was premeditated remains under investigation. Additional charges may be filed pending witness and suspect statements.

27 Jul Khaosod

A 44-year-old noodle vendor named Vilawan from Bang Rakam District, Phitsanulok Province, was left in tears after a thief slashed into her tent and stole over 600,000 baht in gold and cash from her makeshift home at the Walking Street night market in Nonthaburi's Bang Bua Thong District on July 26 at around 6 a.m. The stolen items included 7 baht of gold ornaments, two gold-plated Buddhist amulets, gold necklaces weighing 5 and 2 baht, a Buddha amulet image weighing 1 baht, 70,000 baht in cash, two ATM cards, an ID card, and a motorcycle license.

Vilawan emotionally recounted how she had painstakingly saved money bit by bit over years—collecting 5 to 10 baht at a time—to accumulate her possessions. She expressed devastation over the theft, noting that even basic items like tables took months to acquire through frugal living. She still has debts to settle and shop rental fees pending, but the market organizer, "Khun Thuarae," graciously allowed her to continue selling and postponed payment discussions until later.

After reporting the incident to Bang Bua Thong Police Station in Nonthaburi, Vilawan requested help tracking down the suspect and recovering her belongings. CCTV footage from the market revealed the thief was a tall man in his mid-30s to 40s with long hair, wearing a black long-sleeved shirt, black jeans, sneakers, and a face mask, who was surveying shops after closing time.

RAYONG — A 28-year-old Cambodian worker was arrested after allegedly throwing illegal drugs onto the roadside and attempting to flee police on a motorcycle in Rayong province, authorities said.

The incident occurred at about 17:30 on 27 July 2026 on Road 3648 in Tha Kwian subdistrict, Klaeng district, as patrol officers were on their way to investigate a traffic accident.

Police said the suspect was riding a motorcycle with his younger brother, a Cambodian juvenile, as a passenger. After noticing patrol officers following behind, he allegedly became startled, pulled an object from his trouser pocket and threw it onto the roadside before speeding away.

Officers, who found his behavior suspicious, gave chase and stopped the motorcycle a short distance later.

A search of the suspect uncovered a quantity of crystal meth, commonly known as "ice," concealed in his right trouser pocket. Police also recovered the discarded item, which they said contained illegal drugs.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly admitted to using crystal meth earlier that morning. He told investigators he was riding back to their workplace in Wang Chan district with his younger brother when he saw the police and panicked, fearing arrest because he was carrying drugs.

Police said the suspect admitted he tried to dispose of the drugs and flee to avoid being caught.

The two Cambodian brothers were taken to Klaeng Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities said the 28-year-old suspect will face drug-related charges, while the juvenile will be processed in accordance with the law.

Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and witness statements and have preliminarily determined the attackers are linked to militant groups in Janaé District, involving key figures U Abdulla and U Masawi, with additional accomplices and supporters still under investigation.

The security command thanked the public for cooperation and urged anyone with information about the perpetrators to contact security officials or call the 24-hour emergency hotline 1341, assuring callers of confidentiality. Son Discovers Parents Dead After Bringing Durian Home

A man shot his wife in their Krabi home before turning the gun on himself on July 27; their son discovered both bodies after returning from harvesting durian with gifts for his mother.

Son Discovers Parents Dead After Bringing Durian Home
27 Jul Khaosod

On July 27, Deputy Superintendent Adisorn Yeesan of Nueaklong Police Station in Krabi received a report of a fatal shooting inside a residential house in Pakasai subdistrict, Nueaklong district. Officers and forensic staff arrived at a single-story concrete home, where they found the body of Samphan, 49, lying face-up in a pool of blood near the front entrance with a gunshot wound to the left rib cage. In the kitchen area nearby, they discovered the body of Rattanaporn, 46, also face-up in blood, with a fatal gunshot wound beneath her left breast that exited through her back. A shotgun and spent cartridges were recovered near the rear door and seized as evidence.

The couple's son, who was staying at a relative's house, explained that his parents lived together while he had gone to help relatives harvest durian in a nearby village. Around midday, he returned home with durian to give to his mother, finding the front door slightly open. After calling out with no response, he entered and collapsed when he discovered both parents dead with signs of a struggle.

During questioning, the son revealed that his parents fought frequently because the father was extremely jealous and had often beaten his wife. Investigators believe the couple argued again before the husband shot his wife in the kitchen. He then discarded the spent cartridge outside near the rear door, returned inside, and killed himself with the same shotgun in the front hallway. Officials will conduct further investigation into the exact circumstances, and the bodies will undergo detailed examination before being released to family for religious rites.

Saraburi's city mayor ordered motorcycle taxi drivers to demolish an illegal steel canopy at their stand near the hospital after street vendors complained about encroachment on public road space.

Saraburi Motorcycle Taxi Stand Ordered to Remove Steel Canopy
27 Jul Khaosod

The Saraburi City Mayor has ordered motorcycle taxi drivers to demolish a steel canopy structure in front of Saraburi Hospital after resolving a dispute with street vendors. The vendors had complained about the encroachment onto public road space. The motorcycle taxi leader promised to comply and avoid causing inconvenience to the public.

On July 27, 2025, a clash broke out between street vendors and motorcycle taxi drivers on Municipal Road 4 in Pak Phraeo subdistrict, Saraburi city, after the drivers erected an iron fence around their parking area, blocking vendors from bringing their carts in to sell. The incident went viral on social media.

After an investigation by City Mayor Dr. Panupong Thiphayaset and District Officer Chinnaacharya Rosiakrashakdi, both sides agreed to resolve the matter. The taxi drivers agreed to remove the fence and partially dismantle the canopy to allow cart access, while vendors helped pay for labor. However, public pressure mounted to remove the permanent steel structure that encroached on the road, which is illegal.

Today, the mayor ordered the complete demolition of the steel canopy. When the reporter arrived at the scene, workers were already removing the structure while the motorcycle taxi drivers watched from a distance, having relocated their vehicles to the opposite side of the street. The taxi stand leader said they fully comply with the mayor's order to satisfy all parties, but asked for public sympathy. The motorcycle taxi stand will remain in place, though drivers will now rely on umbrellas for shelter as they continue their livelihood.

Thailand-China High-Speed Rail Phase 1 Nears 55% Completion

Thailand-China High-Speed Rail Phase 1 Nears 55% Completion
27 Jul Khaosod

The Ministry of Transport is advancing the Thailand-China high-speed railway project, expediting construction of phase 1 while preparing to open bidding for phase 2 to connect Thailand, Laos, and China and support regional trade, investment, and economic development.

On July 27, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn chaired the first 2026 meeting of the joint committee managing the Thailand-China railway cooperation project. Senior Transport Ministry officials and relevant agencies attended to track progress and accelerate the Bangkok-Nong Khai high-speed rail project in both phase 1 and phase 2 preparations, including linking railway systems across Thailand, Laos, and China into a seamless regional transport network to support future travel, trade, investment, and tourism.

The meeting focused on monitoring progress and resolving obstacles in the Thailand-China government cooperation agreement to develop a high-speed rail system connecting Bangkok, the Northeast, and Nong Khai province, a strategic area for border trade and regional connectivity.

Once completed, the project will improve travel efficiency between Bangkok and major regional cities, reduce distance and time constraints, and increase flexibility in moving people and economic activities. It will also disperse investment from central areas, stimulate development around stations, and create opportunities for business, tourism, and services along the route.

Phase 1, spanning Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima (250.77 kilometers with 6 stations) and budgeted at 179,412.21 million baht, comprises 14 civil contracts. Currently, 2 contracts are completed, 10 are under construction, and 2 are in procurement, bringing overall construction progress to 55.27 percent. Near-completion work includes the Muak Lek and Lam Takong tunnel section and the Lam Takong-Si Khiew and Kud Chik-Khok Khoat sections. Contracts for the Bang Sue-Don Mueang and Ban Pho-Phra Kaew sections are being expedited to enable signing and construction launch soon.

The Transport Ministry targets opening the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima segment in 2026. Once operational, the route will provide an alternative travel option between Bangkok and the Northeast while supporting economic activity expansion to provinces and cities along the corridor. Beyond transportation convenience, areas surrounding stations have potential to develop as commerce, services, residential, and tourism hubs, creating jobs, increasing income, and attracting new investment to the region.

Koh Samui Faces Severe Drought Crisis as Water Supplies Dwindle
27 Jul Khaosod

Koh Samui is experiencing a severe drought crisis affecting water supplies. Raw water sources for the island's waterworks have dried up, and the pipeline system from the mainland cannot meet demand. On July 27, the Provincial Waterworks Authority's Koh Samui branch announced that severe drought conditions caused by the El Niño phenomenon have exhausted local water sources, leaving only approximately 16,000 cubic meters per day available from the mainland pipeline system—far short of the island's average daily demand of 34,000 cubic meters. The authority is implementing water-rationing measures by dividing supply zones according to a set schedule and is urging all water users to conserve supplies and maintain reserves during rotating shutoffs. The Waterworks Authority will continue monitoring the situation closely and will announce when conditions return to normal.
