Teen Swimmer Eyes 2028 Olympics After Asian Games Debut
Thai swimmer Sky Kingsophon, 17, makes his Asian Games debut in Japan this month after breaking a 32-year national record, with eyes set on the 2028 Olympics in the United States.
Supermodel Lookkaew Metinee brought her 17-year-old son Sky Kingsophon Charphaipearl to the Y Entertain Awards 2026 event at ICONSIAM, where she spoke proudly about his selection for Thailand's national swimming team competing at the Asian Games in Japan for the first time. Sky, who trains intensely every day, aims to deliver his best performance and set his sights on competing in the 2028 Olympics in the United States.
Lookkaew announced she is taking a 10-day break from work to travel to Japan and support her son at the pool without adding pressure, noting that at just 17, this is his first Asian Games but not his last. Sky, who recently broke a Thai swimming record standing for 32 years, is 196 centimeters tall—a height he attributes partly to his tall father, his athletic uncle Mark, mixed heritage, and his young age of 17. The teenager is training hard with competitions beginning in two weeks and is gradually easing off intensity to prepare for the Asian Games.
When asked about his pride, Sky said he is proud of his record-breaking achievement and confident there will be more to come. Lookkaew expressed deep pride in her son's discipline, effort, and determination since he started swimming at age 5 or 6, emphasizing how swimming is a solitary and difficult sport requiring individual mental strength. Sky explained that before competition, he doesn't think about swimming—he focuses on conversations with friends and relaxation—but once in the pool, he switches mindset, listens to his coach's instructions, and concentrates on technique and warm-up routines.
