True and MEA Bury Telecoms Lines in Central Bangkok
True Corporation and MEA are burying telecommunications cables underground along 11.3 kilometers of central Bangkok streets to improve safety and aesthetics ahead of the 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings in October.
Bangkok, September 23, 2025 — Thailand is pressing ahead with preparations to host the 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings, scheduled for October 12–18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. True Corporation, in partnership with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Royal Thai Police, and other partners, is implementing a project to organize and remove telecommunications cables from electrical poles and underground conduits along three strategic economic corridors in central Bangkok, totaling 11.3 kilometers. The effort aims to improve urban aesthetics, enhance safety, and strengthen infrastructure in preparation for welcoming global economic leaders.
The field operation was presided over by Rachantr Anwech, Deputy Governor for Digital Technology and Telecommunications at MEA, alongside Bangkok Governor Sakchatchai Sittipan and Kanokporn Khunchaijaroenkul, Head of Strategy and Regulatory Affairs at True Corporation. The initiative represents public-private cooperation to address the unsightly appearance of tangled cables on electrical poles. The project covers three main routes: Rama IV Road (from Lumphini to Sukhumvit Road), Sathorn Road (from Rama IV to Ratchadamri Road), and Withayu Road (from Ploenchit to Phetchaburi Road). Work will take place primarily at night to minimize traffic and commuter disruption. Upon completion, the project will modernize Bangkok's central business district, creating a cleaner, more organized, and safer environment that reinforces the city's advancement as a smart city.
