Police have filed two additional charges of grievous bodily harm and child abuse against a 32-year-old Burmese mother accused of binding her 15-year-old stateless daughter to a wooden pole and pouring hot water on her body. The victim, identified as Ms. A, suffered serious injuries in the incident that occurred on July 17 and is being treated at Thong Pha Phum Hospital in Kanchanaburi province.
On July 23, Kanchanaburi's Urgent Public Welfare Center assigned provincial social development officials and the Vunscape Foundation to provide assistance to the victim. The suspect was arrested at her residence in Thong Pha Phum district and initially faced charges of illegal entry and unlawful residence, with other charges still under investigation.
On July 24, Kanchanaburi Governor Warista Songsuansermsri visited the hospital to encourage the victim and provided financial support. Medical staff reported that surgery was completed successfully, and the victim is expected to recover within approximately 20 days.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to all charges, leading investigators to file additional charges of causing grievous bodily harm and committing child abuse against her. She was presented to Thong Pha Phum District Court for detention approval. Investigators will continue questioning the victim following her recovery and coordinate findings with prosecutors to complete the investigation file and proceed with formal charges.
