Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced strict new measures to control firearms outside residences, rejecting suggestions to arm teachers for self-defense. Following discussions with National Police Commissioner Kittirat Panpetch after visiting the Thepsirin School shooting scene in Nonthaburi, Anutin said the government would strengthen gun control laws and establish checkpoints to intercept weapons carried in public, in vehicles, or outside homes without official duty.
Regarding shooting ranges, Anutin noted existing regulations require all firearms and ammunition to be registered and stored at licensed facilities during training. He dismissed proposals to allow teachers to carry guns, stating that teachers are not government officials and no civilians should carry weapons for personal protection, warning that using a stolen gun to "solve problems" would result in severe charges.
On illegal firearms, Anutin declared there is no such thing as a "correct" illegal gun and vowed his government would seize all unlicensed weapons. He urged people not to speculate about the incident and to let police complete their investigation, saying long-term solutions would involve coordinated action by the Interior Ministry, police, and government officials conducting full inspections.
