Agile Thief Scales Ladder to Steal High-Voltage Cables from Rice Mill
30 Jul Khaosod

A brazen thief climbed a ladder while covering security cameras with plastic bags to steal high-voltage cables from a cooperative rice mill, causing millions of baht in damages. The theft occurred on the night of July 28, 2025, at the Suphanimitmit Nong Yai Da Agricultural Cooperative's 500-ton-per-day rice-drying facility in Uthai Thani Province. The thief cut eight cables, each 1 inch in diameter and collectively spanning over 60 meters, before running them out through gaps in the corrugated metal siding.

Investigators found that the thief climbed a steel ladder to access and sever high-voltage cables running from an external transformer to the electrical control box. The thief covered one security camera with a plastic bag before disconnecting it, though another angle captured footage of the crime. In addition to the major cables, numerous smaller wires were also cut. Facility manager Somnuek Saralump stated this is the second theft of this kind—the cooperative previously filed a report at Tapthan Police Station after a similar incident and subsequently installed security cameras. Police have been notified and are investigating to apprehend the suspect.

Police volunteer teams are helping Mae Ai District residents clean up after July 30 flooding that damaged homes and blocked roads, with officers also monitoring landslide-prone areas for safety risks.

Police Deploy Teams to Aid Mae Ai Flood Victims
30 Jul Khaosod

Police volunteer disaster relief teams have been mobilized to help residents in Mae Ai District, Chiang Mai recover and clean homes damaged by severe flooding. On July 30, heavy rains caused flash floods, landslides, and fallen trees across multiple areas, damaging homes, roads, and transportation routes throughout the district. A fallen tree blocked the entrance road to Ban Pang Ton Duea temple, disrupting traffic until local officials, village leaders, and residents worked together to clear it and restore normal access.

Mae Ai District Police Commander Rungrojn Thakurupunyasiri has ordered a team of 20 volunteer police officers, led by deputies Thawatchai Surintta and Suwit Thongduang, to assist with mud cleanup, landscaping restoration, and filling sandbags for affected residents. The team will also maintain 24-hour surveillance of landslide-risk zones, with evacuation procedures ready to deploy immediately if conditions become dangerous.

Southern Border Peace Talks Stall After Ranger Attack

An armed group killed five rangers in a Narathiwat checkpoint attack, prompting peace negotiators to suspend September talks and demand an explanation before discussions can resume.

Southern Border Peace Talks Stall After Ranger Attack
30 Jul Khaosod

An armed group's assault on a checkpoint in Tan Yong Mas, Narathiwat, killed five rangers and wounded civilians, sending shockwaves through the local community. The incident has also disrupted ongoing southern border peace talks, which had been making considerable progress until now. Thanat Suwannanan, director of the Intelligence Bureau and head of the peace dialogue team, explained that negotiations had begun well but were derailed by this violence. He stated that scheduled talks in September will not proceed and demanded that the other side explain what happened and why they chose to launch the attack before discussions could resume.

No further talks are planned for September, which had previously been set as the month for formal negotiations through Malaysia's facilitator. "When such a serious incident occurs, it exceeds what we can accept," Suwannanan said. "We were talking peacefully, and then this happens. I understand the insurgents may feel compelled to act on their instincts, but we had started talking. When violence strikes, we have to start from scratch again."

The head of the southern border peace dialogue team also noted that Malaysia will be replacing its facilitator, creating a vacuum in the process—a regrettable development. Despite the initial shock, high-ranking government officials including Defense Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Secretary-General of the National Security Council Chatchai Bangchord have expressed commitment to continuing the talks. Chatchai emphasized that the deep south problem must be resolved through dialogue, even as stricter enforcement applies to militant groups. Both officials believe those willing to negotiate are ready to enter the dialogue process and hope the peace process will quickly return to normal without prolonged gaps. Any talks must also respect local identity and culture.

Celebrity Mourns YouTuber Influencer's Death, Urges Solo Travelers to Stay Safe
30 Jul Khaosod

Jib Vasu, a senior in the Faculty of Political Science at Chulalongkorn University, opened up about the loss of "Hulun," a young YouTuber and fellow alumnus, expressing profound sadness over his passing. Jib praised Hulun as an inspiration to a new generation, admiring his courage in pursuing his dreams and turning them into reality. He shared insights from his experience working in Thailand's Foreign Ministry in diplomatic and consular roles, offering a cautionary message to travelers, especially solo travelers: always inform the embassy of your whereabouts, send your travel plans to family, and maintain contingency plans for emergencies.

Jib reflected that following Hulun's content felt like seeing himself 35 years younger, as both had shared the experience of backpacking and traveling solo both domestically and internationally as young adventurers. He expressed pride in Hulun as a political science graduate who was grounded, action-oriented, and served as a living example that dreams are achievable. "If Hulun, with all his advantages, could do it, then anyone can," Jib said. He acknowledged that while modern travel tools make journeys easier than in his youth, the risks remain unchanged—every country has dangerous areas and natural hazards. Drawing from his experience handling cases of Thai deaths abroad through official channels, Jib emphasized that while news spreads quickly on social media, formal procedures through the Foreign Ministry and Interior Ministry are necessary to notify families. He concluded that Hulun's case serves as a powerful lesson: even with good intentions and careful planning, solo travelers must take every precaution and always have contingency measures in place.

Tidlor Holdings Insurance Brokerage Expands With InsurTech Platform

Tidlor Holdings' insurance brokerage division grew 10.5% in 2025 by leveraging InsurTech platforms, far outpacing Thailand's 3% industry average, driven by expanded digital channels and nationwide branch network.

Tidlor Holdings Insurance Brokerage Expands With InsurTech Platform
30 Jul Khaosod

Chaiyarut Sukplang is driving growth for Tidlor Holdings' insurance brokerage business using InsurTech platforms, bucking market trends. While Thailand's property and casualty insurance market grows by just a few percentage points annually, Tidlor's brokerage division has achieved consistent double-digit expansion. What factors underpin this success, and how much room for growth remains in the market?

Countermarket growth on strong fundamentals

In 2568 (2025), Tidlor Holdings' insurance brokerage business grew 10.5% year-over-year, far outpacing industry average growth of around 3 percent. In the first quarter of 2569 (2026), the division maintained momentum with property and casualty premiums up 11.7% compared to the same period last year. Chaiyarut Sukplang, deputy managing director of the insurance brokerage division at NgernTidlor, a Tidlor Holdings company, said the sustained growth stems from strengths in InsurTech technology, which acts as the backbone enabling expanded sales channels and customer services with comprehensive, efficient reach. This allows the business to advance steadily even amid current market volatility.

Business structure serving all customer needs

Tidlor's insurance brokerage stands out for comprehensive product coverage across two dimensions: insurance solutions meeting all needs—covering vehicles, people, and homes—and sales and service channels designed to match all customer behaviors. The operation runs three core brands.

PrakanTidlor (Shield Insurance Broker) is the number-one face-to-face service brand, positioned as a service broker elevating client experience from purchase through claims. It employs over 5,000 professionals across more than 1,900 NgernTidlor branches nationwide, offering close consultation. A dedicated 24/7 call center (PrakanTidlor 1501) handles claims and full-cycle customer care under the tagline "Peace of mind from purchase to claim." The call center has logged over 260,000 service interactions since December 2023.

The company also operates InsurTech platforms: Areegator, a Software-as-a-Service platform for independent brokers, and heygoody.com, a fully digital brokerage platform for customers buying insurance online 24/7, particularly travel insurance, which enjoys strong repeat purchase rates. Both platforms drive overall company growth.

Thailand's insurance market: opportunity wide open

Despite steady growth, Chaiyarut sees further upside in Thailand's insurance market. In 2568, the property and casualty segment wrote 292,785 million baht in direct premiums, while life insurance reached 676,436 million baht. Thailand has over 45 million registered vehicles, yet roughly half carry no voluntary auto insurance. The company aims to grow its property and casualty brokerage business at 5–10 percent annually, with expansion plans underway.

Suphachai Defends Bhumjaithai, Says Orange MPs Didn't Share Costs

Bhumjaithai MP Suphachai denied defending individual party members but argued the Democrat faction's vote-buying procedures mirrored those his party faces investigation for, while claiming evidence contradicts claims that expenses at a key

Suphachai Defends Bhumjaithai, Says Orange MPs Didn't Share Costs
30 Jul Khaosod

On July 30, 2569, Suphachai Jaismut, a Bhumjaithai list-system MP and legal affairs working-group chair, posted on Facebook addressing Democrat MP Nanthana Nanthawaropass, saying he has been a fan of hers since her talk-show days and noting that she remains true to form in how she speaks regardless of her position. He denied troubling himself or defending any particular MP, clarifying that his recent defense has been limited to the Bhumjaithai Party and nine party members facing old accusations of vote-buying from civil rights group iLaw and opposition parties. Suphachai questioned how the orange faction's procedures differed from the accusations, since both followed identical processes from district to national level, implying that if one constituted vote-buying, so did the other. He acknowledged the existence of coordination but stated it did not constitute fraud, and pointed out that the Election Commission has legal authority to investigate.

On the specific meeting at Jupiter Room in Muang Thong Thani, Suphachai said that although Nanthana confirmed 300 people gathered there—coming from districts to provinces to the national level—evidence he obtained contradicted her claim that expenses were not shared. According to his information, venue and catering costs were paid by a single person from a shared source, contrary to Nanthana's defense. Suphachai remarked that as a public figure, Nanthana should expect scrutiny and respect legal proceedings without defensiveness. He compared her personality to Professor Minerva McGonagall from Harry Potter and said he respected her, but emphasized he is not aligned with her or the opposition, and that if she holds her MP position based on reputation from her talk show rather than through organization, she has nothing to fear from investigation.

Following the royal vision, volunteer staff mobilized to serve society across four dimensions: disadvantaged children, people with disabilities, elderly persons, and stray or disabled animals. The aim was to ease their burdens and create sustainable social benefits. A Buddhist merit ceremony was held at Siri Campus headquarters, with monks from Wat Trimitraram, to mark the occasion auspiciously and transfer merit to the late king.

Thailand Clarifies Copyright Protection for Deceased YouTuber's Videos

Thailand's copyright laws protect YouTube videos as audiovisual works for 50 years from each upload, and deceased creator Hulun Solo's channel rights pass to legal heirs who can manage the account and collect revenue by obtaining court appo

Thailand Clarifies Copyright Protection for Deceased YouTuber's Videos
30 Jul Khaosod

On July 30, 2025, Orman Sapthaweedham, director of the Intellectual Property Department, explained the copyright protection framework for Hulun Solo's case following his death. YouTube video clips are classified as audiovisual works under Thailand's Copyright Act of 1994, incorporating elements such as tourism footage, shot selection and editing, timing control, music and sound effects, and captions—all recorded in digital storage and reproducible.

Hulun Solo is the creator and automatic copyright holder of these works, with rights to reproduce, adapt, distribute, license, and take legal action against infringement for 50 years from creation or first publication. Each video upload marks its own "first publication," triggering a separate 50-year protection period from that upload date.

Copyrights are inheritable property like houses, vehicles, or land. With a will, rights transfer to named beneficiaries; without one, they pass to legal heirs in order of succession: children, parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and spouses. The department recommends heirs submit documents to court requesting appointment as estate administrators, allowing them to manage the YouTube channel, collect revenue, and oversee the channel's ongoing operations.

30 Jul Khaosod

A man and woman lost their way while driving and plunged into an irrigation canal, drowning together, with no one knowing until days later. Local residents said the couple had stopped to ask for directions after becoming disoriented. On July 30, rescue officials and Mae Tang police in Chiang Mai recovered a black sedan that had fallen into the Mae Tang irrigation canal near Thanyalak Hospital in Khi Lek subdistrict, Mae Tang. Investigation revealed two bodies inside—one male and one female. According to preliminary inquiry, on the night of July 28, a man appearing intoxicated arrived at a village with a woman passenger and asked residents for directions after getting lost. Villagers heard a sound like a vehicle accident but no one came out to check. The next day, locals noticed that a cart-trailer belonging to a villager, which had been parked at the village entrance near the canal, had vanished, with tire marks visible leading down the canal bank. Rescue workers then searched using underwater scanning equipment and sent divers to look, but instead found a sedan submerged in the water. When the wreck was recovered, the two bodies were found.
