Geely EX2 EV Test Drive: Nimble Rear-Wheel Performer
The Geely EX2 electric hatchback delivers agile handling and practicality in Bangkok's congested streets, combining rear-wheel-drive sportiness with a compact, maneuverable design that appeals to urban drivers.
The Geely EX2 has dominated sales figures wherever it launches, becoming the number-one model in every market it enters, according to Kulchat Chutichaoungul, acting CEO of Thonburi Noisstein, the importer and distributor of Geely vehicles in Thailand. A test vehicle in Shooting Star or Max trim was provided with enhanced sport styling options including a sportier front bumper design, front skirts, side skirts, rear skirts, and rear spoiler. The trim can be ordered in either matching body color or a two-tone arrangement with white or gray roof and black accents.
The Geely EX2's design features a friendly Smile Face grille that complements LED headlights with automatic on-off and Follow-Me-Home functions for added convenience. The body follows elegant curved lines based on the Golden Ratio principle. Modern LED taillights, 16-inch alloy Four-leaf Clover Design wheels, and a spacious 70-liter Frunk provide ample cargo storage—large enough to carry durian or seafood without odors seeping into the cabin.
Inside, the white-toned cabin feels clean and airy. The driver's seat adjusts electronically, while a 14.6-inch HD touchscreen and 8.8-inch information display provide controls, though the text is somewhat small for older drivers. Wireless smartphone charging is supported, and ambient city skyline lighting with 256 color options emphasizes its EV City character. The rear seats feature their own charging ports and air vents, plus a 28-liter storage compartment beneath, maximizing space efficiency.
During city driving in Bangphlat, we used economy mode and standard regenerative charging since speeds were modest and traffic on Charansanitwong Road is notoriously congested due to bus stops and taxi pickups crowding the lanes. The Geely EX2's compact hatchback size and rear-wheel-drive layout make it remarkably nimble, with responsive motor power and minimal body roll during lane changes—pure electric car characteristics.
Outside the city, acceleration became apparent, revealing slight body movement during acceleration and braking that wasn't noticeable at lower speeds. Switching to Comfort mode eliminated this completely. The cabin remained quiet at low speeds but wind noise appeared around 100 km/h, increasing further at higher speeds.
The suspension feels tight without being harsh, with a smooth quality throughout. At highway speeds, it feels stable and planted through corners with quick, responsive handling—befitting a rear-wheel-drive vehicle. Minor imperfections add to driving enjoyment as intended.
Originally planning to charge only when the battery ran low, concern about charging availability at the destination made us stop to charge for peace of mind. After traveling 162.5 kilometers, the battery showed 47% remaining.
