GULF Development Company Limited and Singtel Group have announced a strategic partnership to develop undersea cable infrastructure linking Thailand and Singapore. CEO Saratcha Ratanawadee of GULF stated the collaboration aims to enhance cross-border connectivity and strengthen digital infrastructure for both countries as key digital economy hubs in Southeast Asia.

The partnership leverages GULF's digital infrastructure expertise alongside Singtel's international submarine cable systems capabilities. Both organizations will jointly develop and invest in an undersea cable project to meet growing demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence, data centers, and digital services, creating long-term business value and growth.

Ratanawadee emphasized that the Singtel partnership represents a significant step in GULF's digital infrastructure expansion, reinforcing Thailand-Singapore connectivity as a foundation for regional digital economy development. The initiative supports Thailand's ambition to become ASEAN's digital and AI center and will establish stable, efficient infrastructure supporting digital sector growth and long-term economic benefits.

Singtel CEO Yuan Guan Moon noted that Thailand and Singapore play crucial roles in driving Southeast Asia's digital economy. The collaboration will combine both organizations' expertise in digital infrastructure and submarine cable systems to support growing demand for cloud, AI, data center, and digital services, strengthening bilateral connectivity and supporting future regional innovation and growth.

Under this partnership, both parties will begin by participating in the Vietnam-Thailand-Singapore Cable System project, an undersea cable connecting Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore to enhance cross-border data transmission and regional connectivity. Singtel Singapore and AIS, leading telecommunications providers in Singapore and Thailand respectively, will contribute market expertise, network capabilities, and strong customer bases to support project development and commercial operations.

The VTS Cable System is scheduled for service launch by 2030 with phased investment according to long-term operational plans. GULF and Singtel are also considering additional investment opportunities in terrestrial fiber networks and other submarine cable projects in the future.

Thailand has attracted sustained interest from global investors in recent years, particularly in data center, cloud services, and digital platform businesses. With rapid growth in digital infrastructure and AI technology demand, stable and efficient cross-border connectivity networks will play a critical role.
