6 Aug Khaosod

OR reported first-half 2025 operating results with sales and service revenue of 381.79 billion baht, a 9.2% increase from the same period last year, as higher average fuel prices offset lower sales volumes amid Middle East tensions. EBITDA fell to 7.15 billion baht, down 35.2%, reflecting margin pressure in Mobility and Global divisions from energy market fluctuations and operational cost increases.

The Lifestyle segment remained a key growth driver, with Café Amazon achieving record sales of 117 million cups, up 4.5% from the previous quarter. The company expanded into food and beverage by partnering with Minor Food to operate brands including The Pizza Company, Dairy Queen, The Steak & More, and Chiho Ramen at fuel stations and commercial areas.

OR continued investments in future business segments, including EV charging network expansion through EV Station PluZ, digital platform development, and logistics enhancement via Thai Pipeline Network (TPN). The company also increased use of recycled plastic in lubricant packaging, reducing new plastic consumption by approximately 1,800 tons annually. On sustainability, OR was selected for the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices Emerging Markets Index for the third consecutive year and received top sustainability scores from S&P Global within the retail sector, reflecting ESG-aligned operations.

Jirithai Shop Owner Apologizes, Ends Social Media Dispute

Jirithai Shop Owner Apologizes, Ends Social Media Dispute
6 Aug Khaosod

The dispute between Jirithai, a northern Thai clothing brand, and its co-founder has centered on business ownership rights, product imagery, AI-manipulated images, and child custody—attracting significant online criticism. On August 6, Ms. Supitcha, Jirithai's owner, addressed Saad Online, apologizing to Phrae residents for remarks made in an earlier video and admitting to excessive emotion in her social media replies. She firmly denied her ex-husband's claim that a third party in their marital troubles was her friend, noting they had never attended the same school or university and lacked close friendship ties. Supitcha stated that messages circulated publicly do not prove infidelity and clarified she never met or had an improper relationship with the person in question. She explained that during the breakup decision, she traveled to Bangkok for two months to study fashion design to create distance, as her ex-husband had refused to move out and she could not endure ongoing struggles over business and lifestyle differences—the primary reason she sought to end the relationship.

Regarding her decision to post videos online, Supitcha said she was not attacking anyone but felt wronged after witnessing a café business accused of copying another's model; she believed she faced similar infringement regarding product presentation, image layout, fabric patterns, product naming, and unauthorized use of store photographs. After the divorce, she claimed to have offered her ex-husband stewardship of the shop to provide him income for child support and his own expenses—an well-intentioned offer that soured after she saw his Facebook messages, which she acknowledged she should not have read but appeared on her screen and she opened them, revealing what she perceived as disparaging remarks about her. This prompted her to exercise her legal rights to reclaim the shop and regain child custody, and she accepted responsibility for reading his messages.

Supitcha confirmed that all sales channels—email, phone numbers, and various sales accounts—remain registered under her name, and she has continued tracking customer shipments with documented evidence of parcel and delivery communications, contradicting claims she abandoned customers. She also stated she had previously offered to purchase all stock her ex-husband had produced and sell it under the Jirithai name, an offer he initially accepted.

Wattanaweckin Group Opens PADDIO Community Mall in Bangkok

Wattanaweckin Group launches PADDIO, a 700-million-baht community mall in Bangkok's Bangna area opening late 2025, targeting the area's 200,000 residents with restaurants, retail, and services in a green-focused design.

Wattanaweckin Group Opens PADDIO Community Mall in Bangkok
6 Aug Khaosod

The Wattanaweckin Group is moving forward with development in the Bangna area, launching PADDIO, a new community neighborhood hub project with an investment of over 700 million baht on 45 rai of land, just 360 meters from the Bangna-Trat exit road. The project features over 10,000 square meters of retail space set to open in late 2025, with carefully selected tenants offering restaurants, cafes, health, beauty, and various services to meet everyday living needs and encourage repeat visits.

PADDIO is the first project under the company's broader 400-rai development plan, designed to create an ecosystem connecting residential areas, education, work, and lifestyle for Bangna residents. The company recognizes Bangna's potential as a strategic growth area in Bangkok, driven by the expansion of residential projects, office buildings, infrastructure, and international schools including Dulwich College International School and Raintree International School, which have significantly increased the population and purchasing power in the area.

Currently, over 200,000 people live within a 5–10 kilometer radius of the project, predominantly young families and high-earning workers, demonstrating the area's readiness for new-concept projects that better serve daily living needs than traditional shopping centers. Responding to changing consumer behavior and the preference for convenience near home, the company found that people seek locations that comprehensively address daily activities including dining, exercise, shopping, socializing, and family time in a comfortable atmosphere with green spaces.

"PADDIO is developed under the concept of 'Everyday Living Made Easy' to serve the daily needs of Bangna residents with one of the most accessible locations for those living in Bangna km.8 and surrounding communities such as Prawet and Suan Luang," said Supachai Wattanaweckin, CEO of Chotidhanavatana Company, adding that the project intends to become a place people choose to visit daily because it is convenient, close to home, and meets the real-life needs of users of all ages.

The project allocates over 40% of space to green areas and open spaces, exceeding typical Bangkok shopping centers, inspired by Singapore's urban development concepts, and features central family areas, connecting walkways, and over 500 outdoor parking spaces accessible without entering a parking structure. PADDIO marks the beginning of the company's development of over 400 rai, linking residential areas, education, commerce, and public spaces to grow together with the community in the long term. The company seeks not to create a new Bangna destination but rather to establish places that become part of daily life.

Man Warns of Hidden Camera in Mall Restroom, Suspect Flees
6 Aug Khaosod

On August 6, 2569, TikTok user @munjaainun posted a warning after being secretly filmed while using the men's restroom on the first floor of a shopping mall in the Siam area on August 5 at approximately 7:30 p.m. While using a toilet stall, the alert user noticed an orange smartphone protruding from the top of an adjacent stall in what appeared to be a filming position. He immediately knocked on the divider and shouted, then waited outside. When the man exited, the victim grabbed his shirt collar and demanded the video be deleted immediately. The suspect apologized and agreed to delete it, but as the victim was still adjusting his clothing, the man suddenly ran away.

After the incident, the victim filed a police report and worked with the mall to review CCTV footage. He decided to share his story not for sympathy but to warn the public that men's restrooms are not always safe spaces as commonly assumed. He urges everyone to remain vigilant when using public restrooms by observing the tops and gaps of stall dividers, and to seek immediate help from nearby people or staff if anything suspicious is noticed.

The victim is calling on anyone with information about the suspect or who was in the area at that time to report it to police. He emphasizes that such incidents should not be ignored or allowed to continue, as victims do not know what the perpetrator will do with the recorded footage in the future. He also appeals to others who have experienced similar violations to take action and report offenders rather than remain silent, as inaction allows predators to harm more people.

GULF Sets Record with Historic Q2 Profit Surge
6 Aug Khaosod

GULF Energy Development achieved record second-quarter operating profit of 12.33 billion baht, a 74% increase from the same period last year, with total revenue surpassing 50.3 billion baht. Yupaporn Wangwiwat, GULF's chief financial officer, attributed the strong results to robust performance across energy and digital business segments.

The company's natural gas power plants—GSRC and GPD—significantly increased electricity sales to Thailand's state utility as national demand rose, improving capacity utilization and profitability. Renewable energy contributions also surged, with 12 solar and solar-plus-battery projects now operational, generating 1,129 megawatts combined and delivering 153% higher profits year-on-year.

GULF's LNG import business posted exceptional results with 157% profit growth after handling 37 shipments totaling 2.4 million tons in the first half. The company's shareholding in AIS telecommunications contributed 4.55 billion baht in profit, up 31%, while KBANK dividends added 2.84 billion baht and the sale of a 51% stake in the Pak Lai hydropower project to J-Power generated 1.93 billion baht.

Second-quarter EBITDA reached 19 billion baht, up 41% year-on-year, though net profit attributable to shareholders fell to 12.45 billion baht due to exceptional gains from the INTUCH merger in the prior-year quarter. At June 30, 2025, GULF held 815.97 billion baht in total assets against 468.36 billion baht in liabilities, with a net debt-to-equity ratio of 1.06 times.

GULF projects 12-15% growth in revenue and EBITDA for 2025, supported by approximately 700 megawatts of new power generation capacity slated for commercial operation in the second half, comprising solar farms, solar-plus-storage systems, waste-to-energy plants, and rooftop solar projects.

Thailand Disqualifies 5,925 Local Officials for Exam Cheating
6 Aug Khaosod

On August 6, Deputy Interior Minister Vorasisuth Leangpraseuth chaired a meeting of the central civil service committee to ratify a decision by the local government exam board to cancel the original candidate list and announce a new roster for 2025. The committee endorsed the exam board's findings that 5,925 candidates engaged in cheating, while 97 others whose scores were irregularly adjusted will remain on the new list pending investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Commission and police. A new roster will be announced on August 7, with notifications to provinces on August 10 and removal procedures to be completed by August 31. Vorasisuth stated that the committee has evidence of cheating and can prove its case, adding that guidelines will be issued to local authorities for implementation. He confirmed the government will not shield anyone from accountability, regardless of rank. When asked about potential legal challenges, he emphasized the process is based on verifiable facts supported by forensic analysis. Regarding criminal cases against former officials implicated in the cheating scheme, he said police and the anti-corruption commission are handling those investigations. The lengthy meeting occurred because committee members initially disagreed on legal interpretations but eventually reached consensus.

Digital-first insurer Roojai Insurance celebrated a decade of growth and announced plans to expand into health coverage through AI-powered underwriting and claims processing across Thailand and Indonesia.

Roojai Insurance Marks 10 Years, Pushes AI to Expand Health and Non-Motor Coverage
6 Aug Khaosod

Roojai Insurance celebrated its 10-year milestone on August 6, 2025, announcing its roadmap for the next decade with a focus on AI-driven digital transformation. The company, founded by Nicholas Fayet, pioneered Thailand's direct-to-consumer (D2C) digital insurance model and has grown from an online insurance broker in 2016 to a fully licensed general insurance company operating in both Thailand and Indonesia. The company now serves over 370,000 customers and remains committed to making insurance "easy to buy, fairly priced, and reliable" through technology and innovation.

Roojai has demonstrated strong financial performance, with combined premiums growing from 1 billion baht in 2021 to 3.3 billion baht in 2026—a threefold increase. In the first half of 2025, the company recorded 1.6 billion baht in premiums and 212 million baht in net profit, maintaining a loss ratio below 65% for the fifth consecutive year and a robust CAR of 520%, well above regulatory minimums.

In its second decade, Roojai plans to integrate AI across all operations—underwriting, claims assessment, customer service, and data analytics—to deliver better-tailored products, faster service, and superior customer experience. The company demonstrated this capability during severe flooding in Hat Yai in late 2024, using AI-powered systems to rapidly approve and process claims for customers during the crisis. Chairman Krakrit Khamruengrit emphasized that the insurance industry must adapt to the digital era to meet evolving consumer expectations, noting that Roojai views technology not merely as a sales tool but as essential infrastructure for elevating the customer experience and democratizing access to insurance.

Leveraging its strength in auto insurance, Roojai is preparing to expand into health insurance and personal coverage segments following its successful launch of travel insurance, with an ambitious goal to capture 6% market share in Thailand's auto insurance market by 2030.
