Meteorological Department Issues Alert 9: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Forecast
Thailand faces heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong winds through August 9, with flash flooding risks in hillside and low-lying areas; waves in the upper Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will exceed 3 meters in thunderstorm zones.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued weather alert number 9 on August 8, 2025, concerning strong winds over the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, along with heavy to very heavy rainfall across Thailand from August 8-9, 2025.
Northern, northeastern, and eastern regions will see increased rainfall with heavy to very heavy falls in some areas. Central Thailand, Bangkok and its surrounding areas, and the southern region will experience heavy rainfall in some locations. A monsoon trough is passing through the upper north and upper northeast, combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The public is urged to watch for dangers from heavy rainfall and accumulated water, which may cause flash flooding and flash floods, especially in hillside and low-lying areas near waterways. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will be fairly strong, with wave heights of 2-3 meters, and over 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. Boat operators are advised to navigate cautiously and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand should stay ashore during August 8-9, 2025.
For the next 24 hours (August 8), Thailand will experience heavy rainfall in many areas and very heavy rainfall in parts of the north, northeast, and east. The public should plan activities and travel carefully during this period.

Typoon Dolphin is currently over the Pacific Ocean west of Okinawa, Japan, and is expected to make landfall in Zhejiang Province, China, on August 9-10, 2025. The typhoon will not enter Thailand, but travelers to that region should check weather conditions before departure.
